As 2017 comes to a close, we look back on all of the gifts of the past year.
The 501(c-3) fundraising arm, the JFHML Friends Foundation, has made an incredible difference in possibilities afforded the community. The sustainability of the Library is dependent upon the success of this group-and it is working! The Friends currently have over 200 members and 30 business partners. If you wish to make a difference in your community Library, please consider joining this worthwhile group. Consider shopping the on-site Bookstore-Backstreet Books. The store is open during Library hours of operation.
The JFHML has provided well-attended programming for all ages: Preschool Story Hour (with FOUR Story Ladies!), the 34th year of the Summer Reading Program: “READING BY DESIGN”, Hot Reads for Cold Nights adult reading program along with Sizzlin’ Thursdays and the 9th annual American Girl Doll Tea. Two after-hours Volunteer Appreciation events were held, free e-book device assistance was offered, and thanks to a generous anonymous donor, the JFHML has been able to continue the mission of the very successful teen mentorship program IU2U(It’s Up to YOU!) with the addition of JUNCTION 101, a Make & Do creative zone for ages 8-12 .The updated Le Connection computer lab has 9 printer-capable PCs, several ipads for in-house check out, 2 LeadPads for the preschool set and 2 Dell tablets for teens. An XBOX360 along with Minecraft is available for use in the Curbside teen area.
The JFHML Friends will host their popular 3rd annual FRIENDS HOLIDAY OPEN HOUSE on Tuesday, December 5 beginning at 10 a.m. Holiday gift items, ribbon-wrapped books and American Girl Doll clothes & accessories will be available for purchase, along with special promotions and refreshments. During this time the Library and Friends will also be honoring staff retirees Peggi Beseres, Deb Weide, Becky Munns and Sharon Beaman. Come and celebrate with us (10 am-5 pm). Cake too! All are welcome.
Pre-School Children’s Story Hour will meet on Wednesdays, November 29 and December 6 & 13 @ 10:30 a.m. with holiday themed stories and activities. December 13 will feature an encore visit from St. Nick.
“Jingle Books” donors will have an ornament inspired giving tree. The JINGLE BOOKS fundraiser is the JFHML Friends Foundation end-of-year campaign where patrons are asked to contribute funds for the 2018 book & programming budget. This year the Hallett Charitable Trust will match your donations up to $10,000 through December 31. Find out more at the Library website www.hallettlibrary.org. You are invited to a book signing with local author & retired psychologist Diane Schlagel. She will be signing her new book The Price of New Shoes- An Oldest Sister’s Journey on Tuesday, December 12 at 1 pm. Books will be available for purchase by the author.
On behalf of the Library Board & staff, we want to wish all community members a blessed and safe holiday season. We want to acknowledge the dedication and vision of our Library Board Members, Cathy Aykens, Don Boucher, Mary Gaviglio, Seth Jackson, Greg Maddux, Jennifer Smith and Barbara Ukura. We also wish to acknowledge the very active JFHML Friend Foundation Board Members, Sandy Arcand, Marian Segersten, Amy Sharpe, Kay Chismar, Judy Hanson and Mike Beseres. The JFHML will be closed Saturday December 23-Tuesday December 26 and Saturday December 30- Tuesday January 3. Beginning in January 2018 the Library will be CLOSED on MONDAYS.
