SUMMARY:Tales Retold Book Club
DESCRIPTION:We will be meeting on the first Tuesday of every month\, to read and discuss original works and spin-offs or retellings based on them. \nOur November pick is a Frankenstein Retelling. \nOur Hideous Progeny by C. E. McGill. \nSummary: \nMary is the great-niece of Victor Frankenstein. She knows her great uncle disappeared in mysterious circumstances in the Arctic\, but she doesn’t know why or how… \nThe 1850s is a time of discovery\, and London is ablaze with the latest scientific theories and debates\, especially when a spectacular new exhibition of dinosaur sculptures opens at the Crystal Palace. Mary\, with a sharp mind and a sharper tongue\, is keen to make her name in this world of science alongside her geologist husband Henry\, but without wealth and connections\, their options are limited. \nBut when Mary discovers some old family papers that allude to the shocking truth behind her great-uncle’s past\, she thinks she may have found the key to securing their future… Their quest takes them to the wilds of Scotland\, to Henry’s intriguing but reclusive sister Maisie\, and to a deadly chase with a rival who is out to steal their secret.

SUMMARY:Banned Book Club
DESCRIPTION:Join us for  Banned Book Club on September 16th @ 5:30 pm \nEvery month we’ll read a book that has been banned or challenged. We’ve picked the first few reads\, but we want your suggestions for what we read going forward! \nBanned Book Club will meet the third Tuesday of each month. \nOur pick for September is This Book Won’t Burn by Samira Ahmed \nBook Summary: \nAfter her dad abruptly abandons her family and her mom moves them a million miles from their Chicago home\, Noor Khan is forced to start the last quarter of her senior year at a new school\, away from everything and everyone she knows and loves. Reeling from being uprooted and deserted\, Noor is certain the key to survival is to keep her head down and make it to graduation.  But things aren’t so simple. At school\, Noor discovers hundreds of books have been labeled “obscene” or “pornographic” and are being removed from the library in accordance with a new school board policy. Even worse\, virtually all the banned books are by queer and BIPOC authors.  Noor can’t sit back and do nothing\, because that goes against everything she believes in\, but challenging the status quo just might put a target on her back. Can she effect change by speaking up? Or will small-town politics—and small-town love—be her downfall?

SUMMARY:JFHML Book Club
DESCRIPTION:Join the Library’s adult book club that meets the third Thursday of every month at 5:00! \nExtra copies of the book are available at the front desk! \nOur November selection is Clover Hendry’s Day Off by Beth Morrey. \nBook Summary: \n\n\n\n\nToday is not the day to mess with Clover Hendry. \nClover hasn’t said “No” a day in her life. Until today. Normally a woman who tips her hairdresser even when the cut is hideous\, is endlessly patient with her horrendous mother\, and says yes every time her boss asks her to work late—today\, things are going to be very different. Because Clover is taking the day off. Today\, she’s going to do and say whatever she likes\, even if it means her whole life unravels. \nWhat made Clover change her ways? Why doesn’t she care anymore? There’s more to this day than meets the eye. \nClover Hendry’s Day Off is a joyful\, raging\, galvanizing story about putting life on pause\, pleasing yourself\, and getting your own back. Whatever it takes. Because when Clover stops caring\, she can start living.

SUMMARY:Tales Retold Book Club
DESCRIPTION:We will be meeting on the first Tuesday of every month\, to read and discuss original works and spin-offs or retellings based on them. \nOur December pick is a Three Musketeers Retelling. \nOne for All by Lillie Lainoff. \nSummary: \nTania de Batz is most herself with a sword in her hand. Everyone in town thinks her near-constant dizziness makes her weak\, nothing but “a sick girl”; even her mother is desperate to marry her off for security. But Tania wants to be strong\, independent\, a fencer like her father—a former Musketeer and her greatest champion. \nThen Papa is brutally\, mysteriously murdered. His dying wish? For Tania to attend finishing school. But L’Académie des Mariées\, Tania realizes\, is no finishing school. It’s a secret training ground for a new kind of Musketeer: women who are socialites on the surface\, but strap daggers under their skirts\, seduce men into giving up dangerous secrets\, and protect France from downfall. And they don’t shy away from a swordfight. \nWith her newfound sisters at her side\, Tania feels for the first time like she has a purpose\, like she belongs. But then she meets Étienne\, her first target in uncovering a potential assassination plot. He’s kind\, charming\, and breathlessly attractive—and he might have information about what really happened to her father. Torn between duty and dizzying emotion\, Tania will have to lean on her friends\, listen to her own body\, and decide where her loyalties lie…or risk losing everything she’s ever wanted.
